How To Check Your SRD 350 Grant
02 May 2023 | 0 comments | Posted by Loria Smith in Money Talks
The South African government has introduced a temporary grant of R350 per month to assist those who are unemployed or who do not receive any other form of social grant. This grant is intended to help alleviate the financial difficulties faced by those who have lost their jobs or experienced reduced income due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The grant was first introduced back in 2020 as a temporary relief measure for those impacted by the lockdowns, but it has been extended on several occasions to ensure vulnerable individuals receive some support from the government.
The Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns meant that millions of unemployed individuals had no way to make money to feed themselves and their families. In a post lock down South Africa, we've seen employment slow to pick up, and many continue to sit without work and require some form of income to sustain themselves.
According to reports, around 7.5 million South Africans were making use of this grant in 2022 as a form of income.
If you have applied for this Social Relief Distress (SRD) grant and want to check if it has been approved, there are several ways to do so.
Who qualifies for this grant?
Originally, the SRD grant was governed by regulations under the State of Disaster Act, which has since been lifted, and with it, the rules have changed slightly. The income criteria for access to the grant was previously a ceiling of R595, which was the food poverty line at the time. Anyone with an income over R595 was excluded from the grant.
The new income threshold is lower at R350.
Anyone with income above that will not qualify for a grant, reducing the number of people who qualify for the grant.
Check your application status online.
The easiest and most convenient way to check your R350 grant status is through the online application portal. To do this, you will need to visit The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) website, and log in with your ID number and the phone number you used to apply for the grant. Once you have logged in, you should be able to see the status of your application.
The online application portal is available 24/7, so you can check your status at any time that is convenient for you.
To access the portal, simply visit the SASSA website and click on the "R350 grant application" link. You will be prompted to enter your ID number and the phone number you used to apply for the grant. Once you have entered this information, you should be able to see the status of your application.
Check your application status via SMS.
You can also check your R350 grant status by sending an SMS to SASSA. To do this, you will need to send your ID number and the word "STATUS" to 082 046 8553.
You should receive an SMS with the status of your application within a few minutes.
This option is useful if you do not have access to the internet or if you prefer to receive updates via SMS. However, it is important to note that you will need to have airtime on your phone to send the SMS.
Contact SASSA directly.
If you are unable to check your R350 grant status online or via SMS, you can contact SASSA directly. You can do this by calling the SASSA toll-free hotline at 0800 60 10 11. When you call, you will need to provide your ID number and any other relevant information about your application.
This option is useful if you have any questions or concerns about your application status or if you have not received any updates after several weeks. The SASSA hotline is available Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm.
It is important to note that it can take some time for SASSA to process your application and provide you with a status update. If you have not heard anything after several weeks, you may want to follow up with SASSA to ensure that your application has been received and is being processed.
Check your status.
In conclusion, checking the status of your R350 grant is relatively easy and can be done online, via SMS, or by contacting SASSA directly. It is important to stay informed about the status of your application and to follow up if you have not received any updates after a few weeks. With these options available to you, you can easily check the status of your R350 grant and get the financial support you need during these challenging times.
