How to Simplify Healthy Eating
11 November 2021 | 0 comments | Posted by Joniel Suezo in Masterchefs
From as far as we can remember, we’ve all had it drummed into us that developing healthy eating habits is important. However, whether it’s eating your five fruits and veg a day, drinking plenty of water, or avoiding processed foods, sticking to a healthy diet can be very challenging. If you’re ready to change what you put on your plate and want to eat foods that benefit your mind and body, here are some tips on simplifying healthy eating.
Plan and prepare meals in advance
When it comes to following a healthy eating routine, the best place to start is by preparing meals in advance. Many of us lead hectic schedules, which makes the option of takeout even more appealing. However, instead of relying on junk food to keep you satisfied, taking some time at the weekend to meal prep will mean you have a stocked-up refrigerator and freezer for the week ahead. A little bit of planning can go a long way, so you may benefit from using a meal planning app to keep you on track.
Stick to simple recipes
If you’re a foodie who would rather eat delicious meals instead of cooking them, the idea of slaving away behind the hob may be too much to bear. Thankfully, there are tons of tasty dishes full of nutrients and vitamins that can be whipped up in a matter of minutes. Sticking to simple recipes will mean there isn’t much that can go wrong, and you’ll be left with awesome grub that will keep your stomach full. You never know; you may get some enjoyment out of cooking, which could turn you from a newbie to a culinary pro!
Only buy what you need
Before you next head to the grocery store, it’s wise to have an idea of what you need to buy first. If you’re about to start on your healthy eating journey, the choice of options at the store can be overwhelming. You’ll be forgiven if you fill your cart to the brim with healthy foods. However, this isn’t practical, as you’ll end up throwing a ton of waste into the trash can. To stop this from happening, write a checklist of the things you need. This will help your money stretch further, and you can be confident you have the essentials.
Keep everything in moderation
When following a healthy diet, that’s not to say you can’t have some treats along the way. Rather than cutting out your favourite foods, it’s wise to do everything in moderation. If you try and change your diet too much, you’re more likely to gorge on junk food. A rule of thumb is to see treats as just that – a treat.
Eat a similar breakfast daily
Many people say breakfast is the most important meal of the day – and for a good reason. Eating breakfast keeps your skin glowing, powers your brain to prevent weight gain, and provides a quick fix of essential nutrients. One great way to simplify healthy eating is to stick to a similar breakfast every morning. Instead of switching things up, which can become complicated, try for the basics like cereal, porridge, or scrambled eggs. Sticking to the same breakfast options will help you stay consistent with your diet.
We all know how following a healthier diet can help sleep, lose weight, and boost energy levels. If you’re ready to embark on a journey to a healthier you, having the motivation and commitment to eating, healthy can be difficult. However, healthy eating doesn’t need to be complicated. Implementing any of the tips above can help you eat more nutritious foods while improving your overall health and wellbeing in the process.
