EskomSePush: Best Apps To Keep Up To Date With The Loadshedding
13 February 2019 | 0 comments | Posted by Shamima Ahmed in Geek Chic
Eskom released a press released on Sunday passed announcing that Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented immediately without delay. Since then, load-shedding has escalated to Stage 4 and today Stage 3 again. It's hard to keep up with all these updates and even harder to be without electricity, after all as businesses our day to day activities generally rely in one way or the other on this basic necessity. From making our morning expresso to building literal and figurative empires.
The Best We Can Do Is Be Prepared
Unfortunately, Eskom has proved to be unreliable and seem only to fix what is broken instead of scheduling regular maintenance. This is explicitly shown by them cancelling load-shedding during the silly season, and now we face the repercussions twofold.
As both individuals and businesses throwing snarky comments and complaining about the current situation won't help, the best we can do for ourselves and to help our businesses thrive in these dark hours is to be prepared. You can do it the old school way by downloading the PDF schedule from the Eskom site, or you can download an app on your phone to help you keep track.
3 Nifty Apps to Help Keep Track Of Loadshedding
Fortunately for us, we live in the technological age, and South Africa's resident software developers have tapped into Eskom's schedule and translated them into easy to use smartphone apps, for both Android and IOS devices, that will quickly alert us as to:
- Which stage of load-shedding we are currently at, and
- When you can expect load-shedding in your area of concern.
Having this info helps get rid of the bitter taste in every South Africa's mouth when being caught out unexpectedly by load-shedding. Unfortunately, it cannot get rid of the annoyance!
My Personal App of choice is called "EskomSePush" developed by Ashwhale. South African's Dan Wells and Herman Maritz are the brains behind this clever app and aim to bring some laughter and smiles to the nation while we deal with this dilemma. Not only does this app work super efficiently by sending you to push notification on any updates in your area, but also sticks to the man with its clever play on words connotating to one of South Africa's most famous and vicious curse words (LOL).
You can find links to this app below, along with others that will do pretty much the same thing without giving you the satisfaction of saying "EskomSePush!!"
