Tips On Financing Your Golf Cart
08 November 2019 | 0 comments | Posted by Kyle Moore in Athletes
As a golf enthusiast, there will be a time when you start to consider new equipment. And since you’re reading this article, the likelihood of you needing a new golf cart is high. Either because the one you have now is outdated or you're simply tired of getting a rental whenever you plan on visiting a golf course. Although purchasing new golfing equipment may seem exciting, there are a few things you need to consider before making any purchases.
This is especially important when purchasing a golf cart as it is a large, costly purchase. So, read below to find out what you need to think about before your purchase.
Golf cart financing
One of the first things to consider is how you're going to get finance for your golf cart. Leisure items are expensive, and they are more likely to fall into the "want" category; therefore, it may not seem like the best purchase. However, many lenders offer leisure finance for those recreational activities that you adore but can not afford.
The right finance deal can help you purchase the vehicle of your dreams with an instalment amount that fits your lifestyle and budget. But for you to get pre-selected for financing, you need to prove to the lender that you will be able to repay the loan amount.
With online financial calculators, you can use the calculating tool to see whether you can afford to repay it. Many financial calculators allow you to breakdown your finances and calculate all your expenses to see how much money you have left to spend. However, you need to keep in mind that the calculator will only give you a guideline and not the exact amount you will need to pay. This is just an idea of how much you may be expected to pay.
Decide between petrol or electric golf carts
Once you have your finances in order, you can start thinking about what kind of golf cart you're interested in purchasing. As you may know, there are petrol and electric golf carts. Choosing between the two is a personal preference as both come with their pros and cons.
Petrol-powered golf carts have a sturdy build, as they are made out of metal material. Apart from that, there are a few other differences like petrol-powered carts that can get you further than an electric cart. This is beneficial as you won't have to worry about your batteries dying, and should you experience a breakdown, you can always carry a spare petrol tank.
Petrol carts, however, need to be maintained more frequently in comparison to an electric cart. But electricity usually is cheaper than the price of petrol, so those are other factors you may need to consider. Electric powered golf carts, on the other hand, are the more affordable option and they use lead-acid batteries. The batteries can run the whole day, allowing you to charge the cart at night. Another benefit of electric golf carts is that they are eco-friendly, and they do not produce carbon monoxide emissions while driving. So, if you prefer a more sustainable option, then an electric cart would be a viable option.
Pre-owned golf cart or brand new
Choosing between purchasing a brand new or pre-loved golf cart can be a tough decision. Especially since they both have their advantages and disadvantages. This, however, is something you need to consider as it impacts the amount you will need when exploring your financing options. Here are a few advantages and disadvantages you need to consider
Pre-owned
The benefits are:
- It is an affordable option.
- You can find a wide variety of golf carts; you may even be lucky and find a cart with the latest upgrades.
- You can find replacement parts easier, and they are more affordable.
However, the disadvantages are:
- It may take you a while to find the exact golf cart.
- It may be challenging to know what condition the golf cart is in, or whether or not it is worth the price.
- Some golf carts may come without a warranty, and you may end up spending more than you had budgeted.
Brand new golf carts
The advantages:
- There are no existing issues that you need to worry about when taking ownership.
- A warranty covers the golf cart.
- It is easier for you to get your dream model.
The disadvantages are:
- It is expensive.
- Latest-model parts are costly in comparison to second-hand carts.
Again this is where you will need to decide what's important to you. Both these options have benefits that you may need, but the disadvantages will help make your decision easier. If you are desperately trying to save money, then a pre-owned cart is what you need. However, if you don't want the repair hassles, then it's best you purchase a brand new vehicle.
Consider insurance
Insurance is a must-have when purchasing a golf cart. Although golf carts are often only involved in minor accidents, there is no harm in ensuring that you are protected. Your cart may be involved in an accident, theft or minor damages that you may not be able to afford at that moment. But with insurance, you can rest assured knowing that you are covered.
Also, if you are getting finance, then most lenders require that every applicant has an insurance package. This is not only a requirement for the lender, but it will also help you when the need arises. Many times, emergencies do not come at a time when you are prepared. Instead, they come when you have other financial obligations. So, this can leave you feeling stressed out, which can, of course, be prevented if you have insurance.
Final thoughts
Buying your golf cart is a great decision.
Not only is it perfect on the golf course, but it's also good for the environment, and safe to drive around in gated communities.
So what are you waiting for, take a leap and buy the golf cart you've always dreamed of owning. You have all the tips to ensure you purchase a golf cart that fits and complements your lifestyle, so you have nothing to worry about when finally making the decision.
