What Are The Various Types Of Water Tanks?

22 November 2022 | 0 comments | Posted by Kyle Moore in Constructive Criticism

Types of water tanks available

If you take a drive around your neighbourhood, you might have seen that many homeowners have upgraded their properties to add more features for practical use cases. Some have installed solar power to capture additional energy, while others are looking to capture additional water that doesn't come from centralised sources.

You may have noticed that every home has a water tank for water storage, and every household receives its water supply mainly from this source.

Capturing and holding your own water can provide a range of benefits, from lowering the cost to ensuring you always have access to water regardless of what is happening in your city with service delivery. Deciding on getting a water tank is one step, but deciding what type of tank is another story.

There's a wide variety of plastic water tanks for sale, and they can hold up to a large amount of water for future uses. If you're thinking of getting a water tank for your home and you are trying to decide which type of water storage tank to install to suit your needs, initially, this can become overwhelming,

Fortunately, you can quickly determine the best tank for your situation by considering several factors:

  • Application. What kind of water is your tank going to store?
  • Capacity. How much water do you need to store?
  • Budget. How much money are you willing to invest in your water storage tanks?

With these questions in mind, we will go through some of the options available and help you decide which water storage tank is ideal for your situation.

Types of plastic water tanks

Water tanks are a fantastic idea for storing water for a long time. Plastic water tanks are reliable and keep the stored water fresh for you to use. If you're in the process of planning your water tank, first have a look at where in your home or property the tank can be housed before you consider any other factors. Depending on the needs you have, the space you have, and the location you can install your water tank, your options are:

1. Vertical water storage tanks

A vertical tank is more stable, evenly distributes pressure, and is cheaper to install. It is more energy-efficient and requires less floor space. Vertical water tanks come in different sizes and can hold up to 20000 litres of water.

2. Slimline water storage tanks

Slimline is the narrowest water storage tank. It has the capability of storing a large amount of water, yet it takes less space than other water tanks. These water tanks are designed to save space and offer easy installation. A slimline water tank serves as a backup plan for water storage. You can store clean and fresh water in these water tanks for future use.

3. Horizontal water storage

Free-standing horizontal water storage tanks are useful for indoor or outdoor purposes. This style of tank is also referred to as a leg tank. Horizontal tanks have moulded-in legs to support the tank on the ground.

However, this type of tank consumes a little more space compared to vertical tanks, but they are suitable for large spaces and can store a large amount of water.

4. Low profile water storage tanks

Tanks with low profiles are helpful for both storage and transportation. They are a great option if there are height restrictions, and they are the ideal height to install under your cabin or cottage.

5. Underground water tanks

As the name suggests, these are specially engineered tanks that are made to be buried and can withstand the substantial forces that the surrounding earth exerts. Underground tanks are mainly used for water storage and sewage/septic tank applications, but they need not only be used for wastewater.

Underground tanks have a few advantages over above-ground tanks – hidden from view, great where space is limited and safe from vandals and environmental conditions. Underground tanks can also be placed in areas with minimal space or in areas you feel would benefit from a more discrete system.

6. Water drums

You might be familiar with these smaller plastic storage drums due to their shape, size and versatility. Water storage drums are also classified as miniature vertical water tanks and usually range from about 50 litres to 250 litres capacity.

Drum lids are often a similar diameter to the main body of the tank allowing for easy filling and emptying of the contents. Drums are ideal for storing indoors and/or where they need to be moved often.
