Why THC Gets You High & CBD Does Not?

23 December 2019 | 2 comments | Posted by Alan Wood in Mind, Body & Soul

CBD vs THC getting you high

Cannabis, or widely known as marijuana, is one of the world's most popular drugs and alternative medicine. As such, it is not a shock that it is gaining more recognition across the globe. Its reputation is getting less vilified, and now Canada and more states in the US are approving the use of marijuana in both recreational (THC) and medical (CBD) forms.

Why do people use THC?

THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is one of the 100+ cannabinoids found in cannabis. It is also debatably the most popular. Why? Well, using THC is known to produce delicious, delirious effects and soothing sensations in the body.

THC stimulates the reward pathway in the brain, causing this so-called mood-enhancing and pleasurable effects. As a result, under the influence, people tend to act on what makes them happy and excited, such as nights with the opposite sex, binge drinking, and eating an abundance of fast food.

Mainly, people use and prefer THC due to the high, care-free, euphoria people experience the drug causes. However, some might not be aware of this, but THC also hosts a variety of medical benefits. Tetrahydrocannabinol is an anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective antioxidant. Moreover, THC can potentially help with treating several health conditions, such as:

  • Spasticity
  • Insomnia
  • Glaucoma
  • Anxiety
  • Tremors
  • Digestive Issues

As such, people with MS or Multiple sclerosis, as well as seizures and epilepsy, greatly benefit from THC.

To add to this, THC is also known to be useful to those with debilitating diseases. These diseases include cancer, HIV, and Diabetes. Through the following means:

  • According to the analysis of five clinical studies, THC lessens the neuropathic pain brought about by Diabetes, chemotherapy, and HIV.
  • There is research that points to THC's ability to help these people gain the appetite they lost.
  • THC also lessens the nausea of those with these diseases feel due to their condition.

Now more people want to consume THC primarily for the pleasurable experience, but also for its known health benefits to the body. Those interested in looking more into products with High THC content can do so via Weekend Gardener's article.

Why do others use CBD?

CBD or cannabidiol is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid identified in cannabis. Right after THC, CBD is the most abundant cannabinoid in marijuana. Moreover, as opposed to THC, CBD is primarily used for medical or health purposes.

People use CBD to get the advantages brought about by using marijuana, but without getting high on the drug. CBD contains psychotropic substances. However, instead of making you intoxicated, it binds with the central nervous system and the brain.

As a result, this positively affects the body. So what are the so-called benefits of CBD to the human body? Well, there is research that considers CBD to be:

  • Seizure-suppressant
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Analgesic
  • Anti-anxiety

Consequently, CBD is a prevalent alternative wellness solution, treatment, and medicine, especially in western societies.

Why does THC get you high and CBD doesn't?

Among the chemical contents of cannabis, THC is the only psychoactive substance. As such, THC is the reason why Marijuana users experience euphoria, hyperesthesia, and relieving, sedative sensations in the body. Also, THC activates the CB1 or cannabinoid one receptors in the brain. These receptors are considered the brain's reward system. When triggered, feelings of intense bliss and elation occur. This feeling is what makes people keep coming back to Marijuana with THC.

On the other hand, even though one can also extract CBD in Marijuana plants, it is usually taken from hemp plants because these plants have soaring levels of CBD, but light levels of THC in contrast. So, CBD has some healing, therapeutic effects, but it does not get you high.

Why? Well, THC interacts with both CB1 and CB2 receptors in the body. Consequently, its interaction with CB1 makes its users intoxicated. Meanwhile, although CBD interacts with some cannabinoid receptors, it does not do so with CB1. Moreover, CBD is known to lessen the effects of THC on the said receptors potentially. Consequently, THC makes an impact on a drug test. On the flip side, CBD will not impact a drug test.

Whether you choose to use cannabis with high levels of THC or CBD is your prerogative. However, it is best to make sure to do so safely and legally. If you are from Canada, you can go ham on both, and if you are from the United States, it might be better to check first if smoking weed is legal in your state. Now that we are living in a more modern, open, and educated times, we are blessed to be a part of a society that is becoming more open to cannabis in both its recreational and leisure forms.
