How To Make a Bright Atmosphere at Home
10 October 2019 | 0 comments | Posted by Bella Ross in Constructive Criticism
Your household’s layout and inventory may affect your mood in several ways very well. However, appealing to all your senses can be just as important. Your wellbeing is why any interior design project isn’t necessarily about functionality or retail value but about finding a way to improve your overall lifestyle. With the cunning use of elements like lighting, decorating with fabric, and a couple of other neat tricks, you can easily make the atmosphere at home so much brighter.
Here are a couple of tips to help you get there.
1. Light
The first thing you need to improve upon to make the ambience of your home feel more pleasant is to invest in the lighting system. The lighting alone can change your perception of the house, seeing as how dim, warm light may make you feel subjectively warmer and cosier in your own home.
Now, while this is possible doing with a single change of bulb, what you could also do is change your lighting system and instead of a single light source opt for layer lighting. This way, you get several less intense light sources around the place.
2. The temperature
Another vital thing for a cosier ambience in the room is to increase the temperature. Now, many people see this as merely turning up the thermostat; however, this is not the only way for you to increase the temperature within the room. Other than this, you can try to improve the energy efficiency in the place by insulating walls and attic, as well as by replacing your single-pane windows with double-glazing ones.
As for the subjective feeling of warmth, those with wooden or vinyl flooring may want to consider looking through the offer of various flooring specialists and ordering something to make the floor warmer.
3. Colour
The colour of the home is also pivotal for the overall atmosphere within the place. You see, different colours affect our mood in different ways, which is something that you need to study very carefully. First, you need to ensure that each colour matches the purpose of the room in question. For instance, for busy spaces, light pink is seen as optimal; however, when it comes to a rest-oriented place like bedroom, going for a deep blue is a much smarter choice.
Yellow is excellent for the kitchen area, while your dining room can benefit from neutral warm white.
4. The scent
The last thing worth keeping in mind that when it comes to the smell of the room, air fresheners and scented candles are not going to cut it. Of course, we’re not suggesting that you shouldn’t use them, but keep in mind that proper ventilation, the choice of your laundry detergents and cleaning products may make a far more significant impact. Also, the scent of freshly brewed coffee can make the overall ambience feel… well, homelier.
The same goes for ingredients like cinnamon. Overall, this is something that you need to choose according to the situation, season, and your preference.
In conclusion
Keep in mind that when it comes to improving the atmosphere, there’s no such thing as an objective metric or standard. The impression that your home makes on you and you alone are what matters the most; nonetheless, this is not always the case.
You see, when designing a family home, you might have to consider the opinions of the rest of your family. Either way, there are so many options and so many creative solutions for you to consider. In other words, this is also a way to express your creativity.
